FC Midtjylland midfielder Mikkel Duelund has revealed his dream of playing for their current Europa League opponents Manchester United one day.
Manchester United prepare to square off against Midtjylland in the Europa League on Thursday night, and the match will certainly be a special occasion for the 18-year-old Mikkel, who is a huge fan of Manchester United star Wayne Rooney. However, he has insisted that he’s still focused on knocking the Red Devils out of the competition.
Mikkel Duelund is already a full international at the age of 18 and has been raising eyebrows of clubs across Europe with his displays in the past 18 months.
On February 10, talkSport claimed Liverpool are keen on his services.
But Jurgen Klopp’s side could struggle to land the Midtjylland youngster, after he revealed that he dreams of playing for their fierce rivals Manchester United.
Dueland said: “I have been a United supporter since I was a little boy, you know with posters and scarves on the wall in my room.
“My cousin played with the Denmark youth national team against Wayne Rooney and got his shirt for me after the game.
“So I’ve had Rooney’s shirt on my wall for many years – and now I will face him in an important game.
“That’s a crazy thought as a fan but as a player I don’t think about it. After the draw, I phoned my father and told him, “Dad, you know how I have always dreamed of visiting Old Trafford as a fan? Well, now I will go as a player.”
“There is no doubt in my mind that we can match United like we did when we knocked out Southampton – if we do everything perfectly. My ultimate dream in football would be to play for Manchester United but here and now my biggest ambition is to knock out the team I love.”
