Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is doubtful for tonight’s Europa League clash against Liverpool, according to the Mirror.
Herrera is said to have suffered ‘a slight niggle’ in yesterday’s training, which may keep him from featuring in tonight’s mega clash between the two English giants.
However, the Spaniard has traveled with the squad, and will be examined by Manchester United’s medical team prior to kick-off to see if he’s fit enough to start at Anfield, or even make the bench.
The report also suggests that these doubts over Herrera’s fitness may have been the reason behind the surprising inclusion of German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger in the squad, who is almost at the end of his road to recovery from an injury he received back in January.
Even if Herrera fails to feature, manager Louis van Gaal does possess other central midfield options alongside Schweinsteiger, with the likes of Carrick, Schneiderlin and Fellaini fit and raring to go.
