Jose Mourinho faces Claude Puel’s Southampton this Friday, on the Premier League Match Day 2.
The Red Devils will be looking to for all three points as the Saints visit Old Trafford today, in what could be a title-winning season for Mourinho.
United have already won their first match of the season – a 3-1 away victory over Bournemouth. Jose Mourinho will be looking to emulate that very performance for the rest of the season.
Take a look at the players most likely to start against the Saints:
- Goalkeeper: David De Gea
He comes with no introduction. De Gea has been the first choice keeper for Manchester United since the Sir Alex days. The Spaniard will be hoping to keep a clean sheet after he failed to do so last time out against Bournemouth.
- Defenders: Antonio Valencia, Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw
Valencia and Shaw have been excellent full-backs for Manchester United so far, strong, agile, and dependable.
Chris Smalling is eligible to play this time, and the gaffer has already hinted at starting Smalling. He was the first choice centre-back for most of last season. He is strong and reliable in the air, and could create a formidable partnership with Bailly.
- Midfielders: Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera, Anthony Martial, Wayne Rooney, Henrikh Mkhitaryan
The much anticipated second debut of Paul Pogba could happen today, as the Frenchman has already served his one-match ban, which was carried forward from last season.
Wayne Rooney would start in the #10 position, right behind the striker. He scored in the last match, and will be hoping to do the same today.
Mkhitaryan featured as a late substitute against Bournemouth, but he could make his full debut for Manchester United today, in place of Juan Mata.
- Striker: Zlatan Ibrahimović
Jose Mourinho would not hesitate on this decision. Zlatan has already got two goals in two games and doesn’t look like he will slow down any time soon. The Giant Swede will continue his position as a lone striker.
