Harry Redknapp believes that Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante has special qualities, which teams like Manchester United ‘cry’ for in their midfield.
The former Spurs coach thinks that Manchester United’s midfield desperately needs a player like N’Golo Kante, stating that the player has got the right combination of athleticism and footwork.
Manchester United splurged over £110 million this summer to improve their midfield, and brought in the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba. However, both players have failed to make a significant impact in the squad so far this season.
Pogba has shown signs of his world-class form, although he is still adapting to his new team and finding his place in the squad.
Mkhitaryan, however, hasn’t featured for the Red Devils for almost 2 months, despite being reportedly fit and available for selection during Manchester United’s last few matches.
Jose Mourinho was believed to have been interested in N’Golo Kante during the summer, although he turned his attention to Paul Pogba after Chelsea managed to seal the deal with Leicester City.
Kante has since impressed massively under Antonio Conte, and even managed to score a goal against Manchester United during Chelsea’s 4-0 thumping of the Red Devils in October.
And it is Kante’s impressive form that has attracted praise from Harry Redknapp.
Speaking on Sky Sports prior to Southampton’s Premier League game with Chelsea, Redknapp commented on Kante.
“You see the legs and the athleticism he’s got, he’s a great signing,” Harry stated.
“There will be so many clubs thinking ‘why didn’t we sign him?’ You look at Manchester United’s midfield crying out for someone like him. He presses, he can pass, he’s just flying at the moment.”
Kante was very much a pivotal member of Leicester City’s title-winning squad last season – a team that will always be remembered in Premier League history.
