Real Madrid are surprisingly looking to offload their star man Luka Modric this summer, according to reports in Spain.

Modric has been one of the most pivotal members of the Real Madrid squad ever since he joined the La Liga giants from Tottenham Hotspur in a €30 million switch back in 2012. However, the 31-year-old has experienced recurring injuries as well as a dip in form lately, which has put his future in the Spanish capital under major doubt.

In fact, as per Spanish publication Don Balon, Real are seriously considering putting the Croatian international up for sale in the upcoming summer transfer window, so as to make room for young and developing midfielders in the squad.

Moreover, with the likes of Isco and Mateo Kovacic already at the disposal of manager Zinedine Zidane, the club believes the end of the season to be the appropriate time to part ways with the former Spurs man.

Real Madrid seem to have already informed a host of European clubs regarding Luka Modric’s availability, and the biggest powerhouses are expected to go head-to-head for the decorated midfielder’s signature in the summer.

Bayern Munich are one of the clubs rumoured to be interested, with manager Carlo Ancelotti keen on reuniting with the player in Bavaria.

Apart from the Bundesliga champions-elect, Manchester United are also one of the heavily interested parties in this transfer pursuit, as Jose Mourinho looks to strengthen his midfield by bringing in some experienced reinforcements.

Signing Modric, however, would not only improve the Red Devils’ squad, but also unleash the beast that is Paul Pogba, according to club legend and current pundit Paul Scholes.

The legendary Englishman was previously quoted as saying: “I think he [Pogba] needs – I think he’s shown at Juventus – he needs a controlling midfielder next to him. A Luka Modric or a Toni Kroos, and I think these players are available. Paul Pogba would be a lot better playing alongside these types of players.”
