Manchester United are looking to sign Lazio duo Stefan de Vrij and Keita Balde this summer, but they are set to face competition from AC Milan for the duo’s services.
Senegalese forward Balde and Dutch defender de Vrij have been identified as long-term targets by United, who are themselves looking to bring their glory days. But AC Milan have also set their sights on the duo, and are also strong contenders to sign them, according to Corriere dello Sport.
The Serie A club has just been taken over by a Chinese conglomerate, and they are looking to recruit heavily during the transfer window.
De Vrij has proved himself to be a solid centre-back since making his professional debut for Feyenoord when he was 17. This has seen him earn 25 appearances for the Dutch national team, and he was also a part of the squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
He was widely expected to move to United earlier too, when Louis Van Gaal was manager, though the move never materialised.
Balde, 22, came through the famous Barcelona youth academy, before moving to UE Cornellà on loan. He was signed by Lazio in 2011, and he went on to make his senior debut in 2013.
He has scored 23 goals in 126 appearances since then for the club, and also also played for the Senegalese national team, making 12 appearances and scoring 3 goals.
Both players seem good prospects for United, though Lazio themselves don’t seem very keen on selling them. Milan are expected to pay a combined fee of £45m for these targets, to convince the club to part ways with the duo.
