The first leg of the Europa League semi-final saw Manchester United travel to Spain and pick up a 1-0 against La Liga side Celta Vigo, a handy advantage to bring back to Old Trafford for the second leg next week.
Despite the match not being an all out action affair, it is fair to say the away side dominated the proceedings, and here are the player ratings from the 90 minutes played between the two sides:
Alvares – 7
Probably the reason the score was only 1-0. A couple of brilliant saves through the match.
Mallo – 6
A decent shift but was troubled by the opposition attacking trio’s pace.
Cabral – 6
Good performance, but not enough to keep a clean sheet.
Roncaglia – 6
Looked a little out of sorts at times with bits of indecisiveness at the back.
Jonny – 6
Won major battles against Lingard, and had the answers most of the time when question by United.
Radoja – 6
Offered sparks while going forward but was bossed by Herrera and Pogba often.
Hernandez – 5
Did not really deliver on the night, needs to step up at Old Trafford.
Guidetti – 6
Could not create or be on the receiving end of many chances today, movement was average, and was dominated by the Red Devils’ defence.
I. Aspas – 6
Failed to make home advantage count to terrorise United’s defence, and did not seem to have his scoring boots on at all.
D. Wass – 5
Missed the easiest chance of the match in the opening minutes with a clear header, and could not make amends once it went begging.
Sisto – 7
A few tricks were on display, and beat Valencia beautifully once, but could not churn out a massive chance for the forwards to pounce on.
Sergio Romero – 7
Mourinho kept trust in him in the cup run and the Argentine did not fail. Another clean sheet in the competition.
Antonio Valencia – 6
The skipper on the night, and given the responsibility, the Ecuadorian was rock solid in defence, allowing the side a clean sheet while keeping Sisto in control.
Eric Bailly – 7
Came back from injury and was at his best as usual, being strong, decisive, and accurate with tackles and interceptions.
Daley Blind – 7
Another solid makeshift performance from the Dutchman, who is slowly making the CB role his own.
Matteo Darmian – 7
Typical Italian performance. No showing off or fooling around, hardcore defence with good decisions.
Marouane Fellaini – 6
Was walking on a tight rope, almost collecting his second yellow card on the night on a couple of occasions, but pulled through.
Paul Pogba – 8
Back from injury and back into the side. One super stand out run and great pace, stamina, and strength throughout the match.
Ander Herrera – 7
Nothing standout from the Spaniard, but great in defence and winning the ball by always popping up in the right place at the right time.
Jesse Lingard – 5
Not his greatest performance, missed a couple sitters to score yet again.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 6
Had a topsy turvy performance. A couple of good runs and creative passes, but nothing majorly fruitful.
Marcus Rashford – 8
Filling Zlatan’s boots and how! Scored from a brilliant free kick and ran himself into the ground for the team.

An attacker with his words, and defends each of them with pride. A love for the game which goes hand in hand with his will to forever write. A graduate in the course of advertising and a hopeful to be author. Herrera for the win.
