Jose Mourinho reportedly held talks with Real Madrid officials, where he asked them to pay £100m for David De Gea’s services.
The two European heavyweights have been indulged in a bargain battle with each other as they seek to sign players in between them.
However, in order to knock Real Madrid’s asking price down, the Portuguese coach has proposed a swap deal, where he wants £45m plus Morata to let go of Los Blancos’ long-term goalkeeping target in De Gea.
Zinedine Zidane, on the other hand, is refusing to meet Mourinho’s demands, as the French manager seems to have cooled his interest in the Spaniard. The Real Madrid boss has also asked club president Florentino Perez to drop his pursuit of the shot-stopper.
The transfer history between the two clubs is also not the smoothest, as the Red Devils remarkably failed to complete the paperwork in time when De Gea’s return to the Spanish capital was thwarted on the deadline day in the summer of 2015.
The current situation also suggests that any of the aforementioned transfers are far from finalized.
