Tottenham Demand £50m For Eric Dier

Tottenham Hotspur have demanded potential suitors to cough up £50 million if they are to stand a chance of signing Eric Dier.

Dier is mainly wanted by Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, and the Portuguese boss is willing to splash the cash in order to sign him.

Mourinho supposedly has a list of players he would like chief executive Ed Woodward to sign. Having sealed a deal for Victor Lindelof from Benfica a couple of days ago, Woodward is now working his way through the remaining players on Mourinho’s wish list – one of which appears to be Dier.

The Englishman has been excellent for Spurs in the last two seasons. He fell out of favor at the start of last season, but was quickly reinstated to the squad, as Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino decided to play him as a central defender.

Dier performed the responsibilities handed over to him with distinction, saying that he is willing to play wherever the manager wants him to. However, he has also admitted that he sees his best position as a midfielder, and hates playing in defence.

Mourinho is, according to reports, willing to offer Dier the role in midfield that he desires, and it could prove to be an offer too hard to turn down.

The 23-year-old is being seen as the perfect replacement for Michael Carrick, who signed a new one-year contract extension with the club earlier this month, but at the age of 35, is edging closer to the finish line.

Spurs were set to offer Dier a higher salary if he remained at White Hart Lane. However, they have now decided that they will agree to sell him, but for nothing less than £50 million, reports The Telegraph.

The fee is far greater than United had initially anticipated, but it isn’t likely to deter the Red Devils, who remain keen on signing him. Snapping up Dier would be perfect, as in Mourinho’s eyes, it will allow Paul Pogba to make the most of his talent in more advanced areas up the pitch.
