Manchester United are willing to spend as much as €45m on Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan, according Italian publication Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The Belgian has progressed by leaps and bounds since moving to Roma, and is being considered as one of the strongest ball-winning midfielders in Europe for the better part of the last two seasons. Nainggolan made 51 appearances for Roma last season, scoring 14 goals and registering 6 assists.

His powerful exploits in the midfield attracted Antonio Conte last year, and the Italian made constant efforts to sign him. However, Chelsea could not come to an agreement with Roma over a transfer fee, and eventually, the Blues ended up signing N’Golo Kante.

After failing to land one of their top targets last summer, the Premier League Champions are desperate to lure a player away from the Italian capital this summer, as Conte is still interested in bringing the player to Stamford Bridge.

However, latest reports in Gazzetta Dello Sport claim that Manchester United have entered the race to sign Nainggolan in a deal worth around €45m.

The report goes on to say that the Premier League giants are prepared to offer €7.5 million per year in wages to secure his signature, with Jose Mourinho having already informed Nainggolan’s representatives about his interest in the player a month ago.

In addition to the Belgian International, the Red Devils have already been linked with top-class midfielders like Eric Dier, Nemanja Matic, and Fabinho, and it will be interesting to see who could be Mourinho’s second signing this summer

On the other hand, Roma were forced to sell Mohamed Salah due to FFP regulations last week, and it remains to be seen whether they are prepared to lose another big player in the summer transfer market.
