AC Milan have completed the signing of Leonardo Bonucci from Juventus for a reported fee of €40 million.
The Rossoneri have sent major shockwaves through the world of football, by reaching an agreement with their Serie A rivals Juventus for the transfer of one of the world’s best defenders. The 30-year-old joins Vincenzo Montella’s side on a 5-year contract.
The Italy international, who expressed his desire to leave the Turin-based outfit following a bust-up with manager Massimiliano Allegri, was linked with moves to Premier League clubs Chelsea and Manchester City, but Milan have now won the race for his services.
The world-renowned centre-back, who now joins the new revolution at the San Siro outfit, posted a heartfelt farewell message for Juventus upon the completion of his transfer, under the title ‘A splendid story’.
“Seven seasons have passed,” wrote the decorated defender. “Seven seasons of victories, of dreams come true, of growth achieved via an emphatic and exceptional bond with Juve, in its absolute entirety.
“Six Scudetti, all experienced and earned by fighting. Naturally, there remains the great regret of not winning the Champions League, but stronger than that is the pride of success achieved and of being part of a big family. I always gave my all, truly, to the end. I received, I gave and I learned.
“What I see today looking behind me is in any case a splendid story, worthy of reaching its conclusion in full respect and affection, without sullying what I experienced together with the Club, the Captain, my team-mates and fans. Thank you for everything, Juve.”
