Manchester United might be on the verge of hijacking yet another signing this summer, as reports in Italy claim the Premier League giants have opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a possible move for midfielder Marco Verratti.
Jose Mourinho seems to be on a summer signing spree, as the Portuguese manager is looking to secure the PSG midfielder’s services. Regardless of the Italian’s links to Spanish giants Barcelona, United are confident they can manage to strike a deal.
On the other hand, doing that would result angering the Cules, as the PSG star-man is reportedly considered a high priority target by the Catalans. That would not be something new for the United boss, though, as he already secured the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Everton ahead of English champions Chelsea.
However, what makes this saga interesting is the involvement of a certain man. Verratti has appointed the infamous Mino Raiola as his new agent.
“I hereby announce that, as of this moment, the only person who is authorised to represent me in all matters related to sport is Mr Mino Raiola,” Verratti wrote on Instagram.
“I thank Mr Di Campli for the excellent job done so far and I take the chance to confirm my deep and unchanged faith in his abilities.”
This has led some United fans to believe the agent’s involvement could help their side secure the Italian international’s signature.
The Dutch agent currently represents some big names, including quite a few of Mourinho’s men, like Lukaku, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Raiola certainly had some involvement in the signing of these players, and the Red Devils’ fans expect nothing less in Verratti’s case.
With several of his employers at Old Trafford, and the relationship he has with the club, Raiola could possibly prove to be a vital factor if the English giants want to lure the midfield maestro to England.
Raiola is known to help pull off unlikely transfers, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he manages to compel PSG into selling Verratti.
Though the Ligue 1 giants have stated their intentions to keep hold of the Italian midfielder, Raiola’s involvement brings a brand new variable into the equation, and it could quite possibly change the outcome.
