Juventus have pulled out of the race to sign Nemanja Matic, according to reports.
The Serbian has been linked with a move away from Chelsea this summer, with several clubs showing an interest in signing him – one of those being Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United. It is believed that the Blues are hesitant to sell one of their best players to a direct rival, but they may be left with no choice.
Juventus were said to be very keen on taking Matic to Turin, but they have been left amused by the amount the London club are holding out for. Chelsea have demanded a fee in the region of £40 million – a sum that the Bianconeri are not ready to pay, according to Corriere dello Sport.
Should these reports have some substance to them, it could very well mean that the gates have flung wide open for Matic to make his move to Manchester United. Mourinho is desperate to sign a holding midfielder this summer, and along with Matic, he has been linked with several other names such as Eric Dier, Marco Verratti, and Arturo Vidal.
However, with the arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko and the dominance of N’Golo Kante at the heart of Chelsea’s midfield, it appears that Matic will most likely be the target which the Portuguese finds some sort of success negotiating for.
Reports recently suggested that Blues’ owner Roman Abramovich is said to have given the green light for the 28-year-old to move to United, as part of his reward for helping the club to two league title triumphs.
