The Blues look all but set to steal a march on fellow rivals Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of the attacking midfielder. Spurs have remained the frontrunners to acquire the services of the 23-year-old, but that position now seems to be in jeopardy, after Antonio Conte reportedly put his name in the mix.
The Stamford Bridge faithful recently lost their talented Nemanja Matic after he signed for Man Utd, and Conte is now believed to be in search of a midfielder to fill the void left behind by the Serbian.
This transfer window has not been a merry one for Chelsea’s Italian boss, as his administration has failed to land many potential transfer targets without whom a title defense looks like a lost bet.
Needless to say that Ross Barkley would be a welcome addition to the current Premier League Champions’ squad, as he very much fits the bill to play for a top side in England.
Everton boss Ronald Koeman had earlier revealed that the attacking midfielder wanted out of Goodison in pursuit of a new challenge, and the Toffees have since set a £50m price tag on the player’s head.
One thing which remains inevitable here is the fact that Barkley will leave Everton, but what’s left to be seen is where he would eventually choose to go. While he fits the bill at both the London-based clubs, he would probably want to make a move to Stamford Bridge in the hope of adding some silverware to his personal closet.
