Lucas’ place in the team seems in jeopardy following Neymar’s world-record £200m move from Barcelona. The winger would be in direct competition with his star compatriot for places, and manager Unai Emery has reportedly deemed the 24-year-old surplus to requirements.
Amid this, the Gunners are currently leading the race to sign the PSG outcast. Although they have had a previous bid rejected by the Ligue 1 side, it now seems as if they are willing to meet the asking price of £30m for the winger.
Lucas Moura, on the other hand, has publicly stated that he has been unaware of any interest from other European clubs. While putting a return to his homeland out of the question, he said that he would most likely entertain any offers from him.
“If something arrives, we will see what is best for me and for the club. Right now, though, I am doing well in France,” he was quoted as saying.
The possibility of this move going through seems highly likely. With PSG breaking the bank to land Neymar from Barcelona, they are now desperate to sell a few players in order to bring some amount of parity in their revenues – which, if not done, could lead to a likely transfer ban due to FIFA’s fair play policies.
Moreover, the move makes sense for all the parties involved, as the Brazilian speedster could get some crucial game time under Arsene Wenger, and PSG could get some much-needed cash back in their system.
