Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has conceded defeat in his pursuit of Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic.
Ever since the transfer window opened, Perisic has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. Mourinho has been a long time admirer of the winger, but the Portuguese has now accepted that he won’t be able to sign the Croatian.
The Red Devils have seen a number of bids rejected by Inter, as their new coach Spalletti looks adamant to keep Perisic.
When quizzed about the rejected bids for Perisic, Mourinho said: “That’s football. If I was playing against Inter tomorrow I’d want to win. They’re strong, they put up a good defence to keep someone who’s an important player for them. That’s football.”
Mourinho, a former Inter Milan coach himself, then gave his thoughts on the Italian club, and how it has changed since his departure.
“The truth is that since I left, all Inter Coaches have had the same messages from me. I want them to win trophies for the Interisti, and when I say Interisti what I mean is us,” Jose continued.
“He [Spalletti] received the same message I gave to Gasperini, Ranieri, Mazzarri… with all those who came to Inter there are too many to name.”
The Manchester United boss was also hopeful for Inter to have a good future, as he added: “I hope Luciano can give stability to the team and win something for us.”
However, Mourinho did stress on the fact that he would want his current team to beat his former, if an opportunity comes.
