United Switch Their Focus To Left-Back As Mourinho Considers Bid For Rose

Manchester United have switched their focus on to signing a new left-back, and have made the position a priority, reports the Daily Record.

United have struggled to find a solid fit in the left-back area since club legend Patrice Evra departed back in 2014. The Red Devils signed Luke Shaw as a long-term replacement, but the youngster has struggled to match the form that made him one of England’s most promising young talents.

Shaw’s form has been shaky under Jose Mourinho, and just when he began to impress the manager, he suffered another long-term injury at the end of last season, which he is still working hard to recover from.

Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo, and Matteo Darmian have all made several appearances in the position due to Shaw’s absence, and have done reasonably well. Ashley Young has been converted to a left wing-back too, and has been superb when he has played, but he too, is currently out with a long-term injury, and it has become a worrying tale for the club that has  had some magnificent left-backs over the years.

Mourinho has longed to sign a winger for a majority of this summer, but it now appears that he has given up that chase, and is in the hunt for a left-back instead. Danny Rose’s name has been one on quite a few lips of late, and he seems likely to move if the chance to sign for a bigger club than Tottenham presents itself to him.

The Englishman has been openly critical about his club in recent weeks – something that has enraged the higher-ups at Spurs. He has stated his frustration at Tottenham’s lack of activity in the transfer market, their wage barrier, and their struggles to win a trophy.

Rose has just recovered from an injury that left him on the sidelines for around six months, and he has revealed that his time on the treatment table reminded him about how fickle a footballer’s future in the game is. He admits that while he is not desperate to leave, he will be considering his options if a club were to make a ‘concrete offer’ for him.
