Bonds that players treasure can have a much more emotional value in the long run. It is not uncommon for friends or prior teammates to play a role in the transfer of individuals, with rapport often being chosen over prestige.
This could indeed prove to be the case in a Man Utd target snubbing the Red Devils for another European powerhouse.
As per Corriere dello Sport, Juventus have emerged as the club willing to rival the Red Devils for the signature of Mesut Ozil.
With the player out of contract in the summer, pre-contracts can be agreed during the winter by the player, and United have been the ones linked the most with the German star.
However, Wenger seems adamant on not willing to cash in on the former Real Madrid midfielder in the winter window, and would reportedly prefer if he doesn’t join a direct English rival, which United certainly are.
As of such, Juventus, with their alleged offer of over £7 million a year to pry away the free agent, seems like a real threat to Mourinho’s intentions. But their biggest trump card might be Sami Khedira.
The duo shared the pitch back in Real Madrid as well as for the German national side, and apart from that, the two are fond and close friends. Thus, Khedira could entice the assist king into moving to the Old Lady.
Further, with the Serie A being a league that Ozil hasn’t yet played in, the challenge might be another tempting factor which is only bettered by the possibility of reuniting with Khedira.
But all of that still hangs heavily in the balance, as nothing definitive has been agreed yet. But knowing Mourinho, he won’t let the late attempt from Turin hamper his plans, and is bound to be thinking of some strings to pull.
