Pep Guardiola has congratulated Man United on their victory in the race to sign Alexis Sanchez.
However, after it became clear that he had no intentions to stay, the Citizens revived their interest at the start of the window.
Sanchez looked destined to join City but out of nowhere, crosstown rivals Man United came in and launched a stunning bid for him. Since then, City have pulled out of the race, having decided that the Chilean was just not worth the money at the age of 29 and just 6 months left on his contract with the Gunners.
Guardiola and Sanchez worked together while the pair were still at Barcelona, and it was him who helped nurture the Arsenal star into the player he has become today.
A fairy tale reunion looked more than likely just a couple of weeks ago, but it is definitely off the table now and Guardiola took the chance to congratulate and wish his former star the best of luck for his years ahead as a United player.
The City boss said : “I am not the guy with the mathematics, the numbers.
“What I know right now is Alexis is still an Arsenal player. I think he is going to go to United so congratulations to both of them.
“In the end, the players and managers decide where they want to play. Good luck.”
Guardiola also responded to a question asking if he was disappointed that his former star chose United Red over his City Blue.
“My opinion of Alexis remains the same,” he said. “It was a pleasure to be with him at Barcelona and he is going to decide to move onto another club.
“I wish him all the best.”
