Ryan Giggs has sought to ease United fans’ nerves by insisting that Alexis Sanchez will come good sooner rather than later.
Sanchez moved to Old Trafford from Arsenal just last month, in a deal that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan go the other way. His arrival was greeted with much fanfare, and many hoped he’d be just the man to get United’s creative juices flowing once more.
However, the Chilean international has endured a stuttering start so far, making seven appearances and scoring just one goal.
United have a long list of legends that have worn the number 7 on their backs and made it their own, but the last player to successfully own the shirt was Cristiano Ronaldo.

A number of players, including the likes of Antonio Valencia, Memphis Depay, and Angel Di Maria, have tried and failed to settle into the no.7 with the massive responsibility and history that it holds.
Sanchez is the latest in line to try a shot at adding his name alongside the likes of Ronaldo, David Beckham, Eric Cantona, George Best and a plethora of other legends.
However, his slow start has caused a bit of worry amongst United fans, who are desperate to see him at his very best in the Red Devils’ shirt.
El Pais have even gone as far as to claim that the club board has admitted to a feeling of regret at buying the winger, though it is highly unlikely that this is true.
Club legend Giggs, who was appointed as manager of the Welsh national team last month, is not thinking too much into the matter though. He believes that it is just a matter of settling in and having his team-mates adapt to his style of play.
Speaking ahead of the 2018 Laureus World Sports Awards, the decorated winger stated (via Express): “I think he’s done okay.
“His team-mates are still trying to find out what he likes, what he doesn’t like, the dynamics of the team. Sometimes it fits straight away, sometimes it takes a bit of time.
