A saga that has been in the making for months now could finally come to fruition.
Jose Mourinho has been desperate in his hunt for a midfielder to replace the retiring Michael Carrick. This has led to a flurry of reports linking the Red Devils with several midfield maestros.
But the one report that has stayed quite strong is the linking of Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred to both clubs in Manchester. As of recent, United have been the ones to come out on top, and a big update on the same may be on its way.
According to renowned Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, United have an agreement in place with the Ukrainian side to sign Fred for a reported €50 million.

This will be another great move on part of Shakhtar, who over the years, seem to have mastered the art of developing talent and then selling them for a fortune, with South Americans seeming their specialty, considering the impressive alumnus of Willian, Fernandinho, Douglas Costa, and several more.
The 25-year-old Brazilian is bound to be a crucial addition to United’s midfield trio, and function as an apt partner to Pogba and Matic.
He has a skill-set that suits Mourinho’s style of play. His dribbling and passing skills are proven to be world-class, and a defensive awareness coupled with an ability to create spaces up-front will mean that he will be an all-round positive addition to a squad that has often seemed wanting for creativity in the past.
Further, with their other big target Sergej Milinković-Savić seemingly stuck in a transfer deadlock with a fee of €100 million perhaps too hefty an amount for United to meet, the Brazilian will undoubtedly be a cheaper acquisition than the skilled Serb.
Now, with this deal almost done, United must also seek to mend their other defects in order to taste glory next season.
