Matteo Darmian is in advanced talks with Juventus to join the newly crowned Serie A champions, as reported by transfer rumour specialist Fabrizio Romano.

Juve are reportedly looking to add Darmian to their side following the departure of Stephan Lichtsteiner this summer. Question marks also remain over whether left-back Kwadwo Asamoah will sign a new contract.

Rumours linking the right-back to an exit from United have been doing the rounds since April, when Darmian had stated: “I’m living a great experience here in England. I’d say yes to United again. It’s one of the best clubs in the world. I won several trophies here but I miss Italy.

“Let’s see what happens at the end of the season. Now the priority is to end the season in the best way possible. Juventus? I have not decided yet. I am happy Juventus are interested in me. Juve are a great club and I am happy for that.”

Juventus are said to be tabling a £12 million offer for the right-back this summer. Mario Mandzukic might be involved in an alternate swap deal, as the Croatian striker is said to be looking for a different challenge in his career following 3 years of Serie A success with the Old Lady.

Adding Mandzukic, one of the hardest working and most versatile strikers in Europe, would be a shot in the arm for a Manchester United team that doesn’t have a top striker other than Belgian powerhouse Romelu Lukaku in their ranks.

Darmian has fallen way down the pecking order at United, with Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, and even Luke Shaw being preferred over him whenever available.

The Italian international has only made 13 appearances over the course of the 2017-18 season, falling from 33 in his first season under Louis van Gaal, and 25 in the 2016-17 season.
