Jose Mourinho is reportedly ready to spend big to try and land Joao Cancelo this summer, reports the Mirror.
Manchester United may have a strong squad at their disposal, but there are a number of roles in the squad that need an upgrade if the Reds are to compete with the likes of Manchester City for the league title next season.
Positions that Mourinho is desperate to improve on are the full-back areas. The manager has used Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young for a greater part of the season, but with both players well past their prime, it is time for the Red Devils to recruit some young talents for these roles.
They are also expected to let the likes of Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind, and Luke Shaw leave this summer, and one player they are looking to replace them with is Joao Cancelo.

Having spent the season on loan at Inter Milan, the Portuguese international, who made 20 Serie A starts, is yet to be tied to a permanent deal in Italy. He missed out on a trip to Russia for the World Cup, and will sort his future out before the start of next season.
Manchester United are reportedly ready to make a move for Cancelo if Inter Milan decide not to use the option to make his deal permanent.
At just 23, Cancelo has enough time to turn into a star in the years to come, and working under the Portuguese tactician will also help him settle down well in the Premier League.
He is expected to cost around £30m, but he is not the only right-back on Mourinho’s radar. The Manchester United boss is looking at another Portuguese international in Cedric Soares, who has previous experience in the Premier League.
However, his prime option for the right-back role remains Juventus’ Alex Sandro, who might be twice as expensive.
