Jose Mourinho is looking to strengthen his side at the back, and has identified Porto’s teenage defender Diogo Dalot.
With Antonio Valencia not at his peak anymore and Matteo Darmian expected to join Juventus, United want a right-back to fill in well. And that has prompted the club to go for 19-year-old Dalot, who has a release clause of £17.4m.
The Portugal Under-21 international is a versatile player, and can play as a right-back as well as on the left flank. Jose is therefore assured that Dalot can provide competition for Valencia.
A report in the BBC earlier had stated that contact between the clubs has been made, and the deal could be agreed in the coming days.
The player, who made his Porto debut in the 2017-18 season, played in the Champions League match against Liverpool, where he took on Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in the 0-0 draw at Anfield.
Fans who are keen to know more about the player have been watching his videos on YouTube. The video of him playing against Liverpool was noticed, and many supporters voiced their opinion about the player in the comments section.
Several fans seemed very positive about his arrival and praised his awareness and ability. They also noted his calmness whilst facing off against the top players in the world.
On the other hand, there were some who feel he could be another Darmian in the making, and want Timothy Fosu-Mensah to challenge for the RB spot instead. The Dutchman impressed whilst on loan at Crystal Palace during the 2017-18 season.
