Manchester United fans were quick to notice a hint of Fred being on the verge of joining their club on Twitter.

The Red Devils, who were unable to compete for the league title against their neighbours, are now expected to spend big on star players, so as to improve their first team this summer.

This has seen them linked with a number of star players, but one name at the top of their wish list all along has been Fred. The central midfielder has been the biggest story for United to follow since the start of the summer transfer window this year.

And it is now being reported that Fred is close to completing his move to Manchester United, and the player has even given the supporters a hint on his Twitter account.

The 25-year old, who is a part of the Brazilian national team travelling to Russia, was in England on Sunday for his nation’s friendly against Croatia. The game was played at Anfield, 40 miles away from Manchester, where Fred came on as a second-half substitute.

But not long after the final whistle, the player posted a congratulatory tweet for his side, unknowingly throwing out a hint about his future. With the location enabled, his tweet confirmed that he was indeed in Manchester.

The tweet was taken down as soon as he realized it, but not before a number of United fans got a glimpse of it.

Manchester United are desperate to get this deal over the line as long as Fred remains in England, and this saga only shows that they are not too far away from securing his signature.

The Shakhtar Donetsk man is expected to cost the Red Devils around £52m, and could be one of the many high-profile signings Jose Mourinho is set to bring to Old Trafford this summer.
