Unai Emery’s reign at Arsenal is one that is highly anticipated and slated for change given the Arsene Wenger era that occurred before him.
Now, the manager will have the apt resources to build his squad, and Arsenal, after weeks of being linked with various talents, finally have their first summer signing.
The club has successfully signed Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus on a free transfer. The 34-year-old Swiss international announced his own transfer with a video on the club’s Twitter handle, saying: “Nothing gets past Arsenal Twitter.”
Stephan is an experienced right defender, and will wear the no.12 jersey at the Emirates.

Manager Unai Emery had this to say about the signing: “Stephan brings huge experience and leadership to our squad. He’s a player with great quality with a very positive and determined attitude. Stephan will improve us on and off the pitch.”
The player himself had this to say: “It’s a great moment. It’s a great for me after Juventus to come to Arsenal and have this big challenge to make big things [happen] with this big club. There is a project to come back into the Champions League.
“I think it’s hard to see a club like Arsenal not playing in the Champions League. If you see the players, if you see the club, the stadium… it’s the project, the big opportunity to get back to the highest level.”
Arsenal are also expected to announce the signing of defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos soon. The Greek international is 29 years of age, and this will mean that the Gunners are going the safe route by opting to have experienced feet at the back.
Further, with his price tag reported to be quite conservative, it is clear that Arsenal will look at free agents and cheaper talents to make the most out of a dwindling budget.
The Borussia Dortmund player’s father revealed to Greek radio station 24/7 that Manchester United were close to signing the centre-back earlier, but that Sokratis has elected to go to Arsenal instead.
Lastly, the London club is unexpectedly linked with signing Marouane Fellaini on a free transfer as well, although that saga is yet to be developed further than an alleged meeting between representatives.
