Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s name has been thrown around as a Manchester United transfer target for a while now. For the Lazio midfielder, this attention must be as flattering as anything he’s experienced in his career so far.

He certainly is following every update on the internet regarding the Red Devils’ transfer activity, as is revealed by his Instagram activity.

The Serbian midfielder ‘liked’ a post on Instagram by Manchester United, which announced the signing of former Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred.

This has not gone unnoticed by people on the platform, fueling speculation of Sergej’s possible move to Old Trafford being in the offing.

The 23-year-old has excelled for Lazio during his 3-year stay in Rome, chalking up 25 goals in 122 appearances for the capital club. His best season is the one that just finished, as he tallied 48 appearances for Lazio across all competitions while scoring 15 goals.

Milinkovic-Savic is one of the most complete midfielders in Europe today. He has the backing of former Lazio players who flourished there, including club legend and former striker Pierluigi Casiraghi, who said:

“I do not know if the valuation is right, if I had €100m I would buy him. I like him very much, not just from today, he was immediately seen as a great player. He is unique, he is [just] 23 years old.”

Stefan Fiore was steadfast in his praise for the Serb as well, saying: “Given the figures that are now involved in football, he is worth the money because of the quality and characteristics he possesses. I also watch a lot of foreign football but players like him are not there.

“An auction will open and we’ll see what happens, but if a defender can go for €70m [£61m] in England then Milinkovic-Savic is worth much more. That said, the market has gone crazy and should return to more normal figures.”
