Jose Mourinho has turned quite a few heads with his latest comments.

The 55-year-old hailed newly-signed Diogo Dalot as the ‘best full-back in Europe from his age group’. Mourinho added that the 19-year-old ‘is an extremely talented young defender with all the qualities to quickly become a great player for this club’.

Liverpool fans on Twitter have quite a few choice words to say, lambasting this statement.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, their 18-year-old right-back, has 44 appearances this season in all competitions. He was crucial in the Merseyside club’s run in the Champions League, which culminated with a 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the final.

In other words, he is a much more proven commodity, and also younger than the Portuguese, who has only 8 appearances in senior competition.

There is little doubt that the Liverpool youngster, who has also made the cut for England’s World Cup squad, is the better player at this point in their careers.

Tweeter @ABoughan echoed these thoughts in his tweet, as did quite a few other members of the Liverpool fandom among Twitterati.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp also had special praise for Alexander-Arnold, noting: “It was obvious he’s a big talent when we got him. Physically he was ready – he made big steps and he was still growing.

“The talent was obvious and there was only one question – was he mentally ready for the Premier League? He showed he absolutely is and he had an outstanding season. Hopefully he will have a good World Cup and I think it’s deserved and a good decision.”

Trent is in line to start for The Three Lions in their final pre-World Cup warm-up game against Costa Rica. The match is to be played at the iconic Elland Road stadium, home to Leeds United, on Friday evening.
