Former Besiktas forward Talisca has signed with Guangzhou Evergrande.

The Chinese Super League club posted a statement on their official website, which read: “Guangzhou Evergrande has officially announced the signing of an agreement with the Brazilian Anderson Talisca, who has been loaned for six months.

“Once the player has passed his medical in the coming days, he will fly to Italy and join the team in summer training to prepare for the second half of the season.”

Talisca, a Benfica player since 2014, had been riding the bench in the recent past. Manchester United were rumoured to be one of the suitors for the out-of-favour playmaker, with Jose Mourinho being an admirer of the 24-year-old.

The Chinese giants have previously signed the likes of ex-Porto striker Jackson Martinez as well as Paulinho, a former Tottenham outcast. Their previous transfer activity has also included the likes of Robinho and Alessandro Diamanti.

Fabio Cannavaro has been in charge of the Guangzhou-based club’s on-pitch activities since last year. The Chinese outfit currently also has two other Brazilians, Alan Carvalho and Ricardo Goulart, under contract.

Talisca spent the last 2 seasons on loan with Turkish giants Besiktas. He bagged a sizeable haul of 37 goals in 78 appearances for the club, playing himself back into form.

Once touted as a player destined for stardom in the major European leagues, the 24-year-old may have taken a jump sideways rather than forward in his career.

Few players plying their trade in China are ever considered for their international teams, although Brazil have a less stringent manager in this regard.

United have already signed a defensive midfielder in Fred from Shakhtar this summer, and are on the lookout to finish as many deals as possible before the start of the World Cup hosted by Russia.
