Manchester United have been credited with giving world football some of its most iconic superstars.
Over the years, the likes of David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, and more recently Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard have all graduated from the famed United Youth Academy.
And if their recent products are anything to go by, we may have a few more superstars on the way. One such starlet was on fire in his senior team debut for the club against Club America in United’s pre-season match against the North American outfit.
The game itself may have been lackluster from a Red Devil point-of-view, but fans have reason to be excited by the performance of midfield player Tahith Chong.
The Dutchman proved why he’s the next big thing after a stellar performance off the bench. In just 30 minutes, it was evident that there’s something special about the 18-year-old.
The teenager provided the cross from which Juan Mata put away the equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Club America, and stole the show with his calmness on the ball and sudden acceleration, leaving defenders clueless.
His defensive ability was also on display, and with a manager like Jose Mourinho watching on, that’s always a reason for brownie points.
The United boss himself was impressed with his new prodigy, calling him “enthusiastic” and “confident” after the match. Apart from the fans, even former players like Paul Scholes chimed in, referring to the youngster as “mature and confident”.
If this debut was a harbinger of things to come, the future of Manchester United looks to be in very able hands.
