Foxes’ manager Claude Puel is still hanging on to the idea of Harry Maguire staying put at Leicester City.
The 56-year-old stated as much in an interview, remaining convinced that Maguire, who has been heavily linked with a major switch to Manchester United, is motivated to stay at the club past this summer.
Along with Maguire, goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has also been constantly linked with an exit. Despite Schmeichel’s best efforts in Denmark’s round of 16 game, wherein he saved 2 penalties, his team crashed out of the World Cup.
Schmeichel was a mainstay of Claudio Ranieri’s title-winning squad from 2015-16. Leicester City, however, have lost a number of key players from that squad since.

The loss of Kante in the summer of 2016 to Chelsea maimed their defense of the crown in the subsequent season. Riyad Mahrez was the subject of a club-record £60m bid from Manchester City this summer. Despite Leicester’s recent past betraying evidence that they are a selling club, their gaffer has found grounds for optimism.
The other thing that reinvigorates this notion is that there are less than two weeks left until the transfer window shuts close, which poses a problem for clubs in pursuit of these players.
“I think we can keep both players,” Puel recently told reporters. “It is crucial for us. We cannot lose players just a few days before the beginning of the season. We would not be able to find a solution and we cannot be be behind.
“Kasper and Maguire are so valuable for us. It is important to maintain our structure, our squad and all our valuable players for the team.
“We know all the difficulties after the World Cup, to work in this condition to prepare all of the squad, to keep good mentality and spirit and to find a good level for every player. If we have another surprise before the end of the pre-season, it will be tough.”
