Jerome Boateng To United Might Not Be Happening, And Here’s Why

Manchester United have gone through a tough summer break to say the very least.

After failing to win any trophies last season, the Red Devils have been unable to sign any major players in this transfer window, despite manager Jose Mourinho’s claims that he needed a squad overhaul.

Such is the dire state of affairs, that just a day remains in the window, and United still haven’t signed the top class defenders they have wanted for perhaps over a year.

Several players have been linked with a switch to Old Trafford, but none have materialized so far, leading to nervy last moments for United fans.

One defender who has come to the forefront of this transfer saga is Bayern Munich centre-back Jerome Boateng. The German has pretty much seen it all in his career already, but was reportedly looking for a new challenge – and United seemed very interested.

But now, it appears as if that deal might be off, if reports from GiveMeSport are to be believed.

They claim that Boateng wants to win major trophies if he is to join a new club, and doesn’t think Manchester United are capable of winning tournaments such as the Champions League.

The former Manchester City defender would much rather stay put in Bavaria and have a better chance of winning, than move to the red half of Manchester and struggle to win big.

While this does seem like a sensible call on the part of the 29-year-old, it also frustrates United fans who wanted a big name to enter the fray and facilitate a charge for trophies.

A name still mentioned again and again though, is Toby Alderweireld, who is desperate to join the Mancunian outfit from Spurs, but isn’t being sold by the North Londoners.

Harry Maguire and Yerry Mina are also in the running, and the next 24 hours should be crucial in deciding how things end up.
