Manchester United have offered Juan Mata to Inter Milan, as per Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sport Italia.

Mata joined the Old Trafford club back in 2014, and since then, the 30-year-old has been a mainstay in the team for four and a half years.

The former Chelsea man was a trusted ally of both Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho. But now, the Portuguese wants a more affluent and direct winger, and Ivan Perisic is being targeted once again.

Moreover, Mata is not the ideal player that will start matches under Mourinho, who wants to start Jesse Lingard and Alexis Sanchez alongside Romelu Lukaku in a three-man attack.

Mata has never been allowed the space to roam free in at the number 10 role, and has often been forced out wide. Jose also wants cohesion from all his players, and that’s how everybody, including Juan, has had to come in and adapt under the manager.

The Spaniard’s influence at United hasn’t been consistent, and perhaps that’s another reason why the Portuguese tactician is willing to let the player go.

Mata has won an FA Cup, a League Cup and a UEFA Europa League title at United, but the spell at Chelsea saw him playing with more finesse. The playmaker is expected to keep his creativity going, and it remains to be seen whether Inter take a plunge and get him.

The report also states that Inter are likely to go down a different route, as they look to bring Monaco‘s Keita Balde Diao back to the Italian top flight.

That could see Mata stay at United for another season. With him not being very effective as a winger, it is a testing time for him to decide on how to go about and decide his future.
