Mourinho Regrets Signing Sanchez Instead Of This 29-Year-Old Winger

Back in January 2018, Manchester United dropped a strong statement of intent by defeating Manchester City in the race to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.

The Chilean chose to move to the red side of Manchester instead of the blue – despite the Cityzens being a more established side than their local counterparts – in the hopes of taking the Red Devils back to the top.

However, things have barely worked out according to plan, and Sanchez continues his struggles at the Old Trafford outfit, having scored just 4 goals in 28 appearances so far.

Further, recent reports have claimed that the Chilean international is already considering departing from the Theatre of Dreams, amid supposed interest from French heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain.

As per The Times, however, Sanchez isn’t the only one who regrets this move, as his feelings are shared by Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho as well.

The Portuguese tactician rues signing Alexis instead of his original transfer target: Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic.

The Mancunian giants were consistently linked with Perisic for quite some time, but in spite of the wide-man’s impressive performances for Inter as well as the Croatian national team, United CEO Ed Woodward refused to meet the Serie A club’s valuation of the player.

Mourinho believes Perisic would have fit into the current United lineup much better than Sanchez has, as he would have provided the Reds with precisely what their forward line seems to be lacking at the moment.
