The speculation surrounding the futures of some Manchester United players ahead of the January transfer window is heating up.
Jose Mourinho did admit that the club might get in only one player, which reports state could be a defender. But apart from defence, the club is also looking to sharpen other areas.
That could likely be addressed in the summer transfer window, and a new name to get attached to the list of probables is Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.
Tanguy is widely seen as one of the most promising talents in his position in Ligue 1 and Europe as a whole. The French club had received a €50m offer from Manchester City last summer, but no agreement was reached on the fee.
The 21-year-old is being touted to leave for a bigger club in the near future, but there could be a stumbling block that might not make this deal happen. Lyon expect to secure a much higher fee for the player than what was offered by Manchester City.
Reports state that interested parties might need to spend a whopping sum for the starlet, which could be in the region of what United coughed up for Paul Pogba in 2016. The club had broken its transfer fee record back then, making the Frenchman the costliest player.
It remains to be seen whether the Mancunians once again go ahead and invest heavily this time around.
