A lot of talk has been going on since quite some time regarding the contract extension of David de Gea at Manchester United. The goalkeeper has been the club’s best performer since the last couple of seasons by a mile.

The Old Trafford unit has always been keen to fend off interests and tie the player to a long term deal. United had recently extended De Gea’s contract by a year, and it now runs until the summer of 2020.

This season, the Premier League club has been working on a long-term lucrative deal for the Spaniard. There have been reports suggesting that major work regarding his future is being done by the United hierarchy.

It was suggested that De Gea wants a pay bracket similar to that of Alexis Sanchez, who is the top-earner at United. European giants Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain were stated to have been interested in the 28-year-old.

Now, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems to have convinced the Spaniard that the club can match his ambition, and he could be ready to sign a deal worth around £375,000-per-week.

Since the update, De Gea himself has indirectly dropped a massive hint that he could be ready to commit his future to the club. A post on social media from Emilio Alvarez suggests a breakthrough may well have been reached with the top goalie.

Alvarez, the club’s goalkeeper coach, went on to upload a picture to Instagram on Thursday alongside De Gea and another friend. The caption reads: “Friends, coffee time, excited future ahead.”

One will hope that the exciting future was in relation to De Gea signing a new deal. The Spanish international has played 349 matches for United, and could reach the landmark of 350 on Saturday.
