Manchester United and Manchester City appear eons apart in the Premier League table at the moment. While the Sky Blues are fighting to win the league, their more illustrious neighbors may have put their top-four hopes in serious jeopardy after losing 2-1 to Wolves on Tuesday.

However, their present races won’t hinder their hopes of landing promising targets in the upcoming summer transfer window.

A variety of needs will be sought to be fulfilled in that window, with both teams facing unique challenges with regard to their respective rosters. However, it appears that a common destination is on the radar of both English giants.

As per ESPN, Manchester United have joined the race to sign Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid, while City are more interested in acquiring the services of Rodri.

Niguez has reportedly been identified by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a potential partner for Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic in United’s midfield.

The region is crucial for the side, as Ander Herrera is believed to be seriously considering a move to PSG in the summer, with a lucrative contract allegedly tempting his options.

However, if the Red Devils do go for the midfielder, it will be an expensive affair, or will result in an exceptionally prolonged negotiation process.

At present, Niguez, who is tied to the Spanish club until 2026, has an unbelievable €150m release clause in his contract. This is no head-turner, as the 24-year-old is amongst the many La Liga players to have a ridiculous release clause embedded in their contracts.

As for Manchester City, the pursuit for Rodri will cost them as high as €70m, with the 22-year-old’s release clause being more reasonable. It is being reported that Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the talent, and views him as the ideal holding midfielder who suits City’s bill.
