A club like Manchester United is almost always on the hunt for the next big player in Europe.
Be it in their elusive search for an apt no.7 or in the commercial urge at Old Trafford to capitalize on the future, the Red Devils feature prominently amongst the list of clubs linked with promising youngsters.
However, the inverse is not heard of as often. Despite United’s youth academy boasting of some of the finest alumni in European football and maintaining a solid reputation, their players are seldom picked up by foreign clubs.
However, that may soon change.
According to Voetbal International, Bayern Munich are reportedly amongst the clubs interested in signing Tahith Chong.
The 19-year-old Dutch winger is amongst the newer names to have broken through the senior ranks at Old Trafford. Chong was also impressive during United’s pre-season tour to Australia and Asia this summer.
In fact, the club officially listed the teenager as a first-team player this season, alongside the likes of Mason Greenwood, James Garner, and Angel Gomes.
The report adds that Munich could be looking at Chong as a possible replacement for Arjen Robben. The two players are certainly of a similar profile and their positioning and common nationality does make this report appear tempting.
However, no solid facts were claimed in the source and it is believed that the player himself would prefer to stay at Old Trafford and develop and fight for his place in the first team.
Ever since Jadon Sancho made an impressive switch to Borrusia Dortmund from Man City, it appears as if other European clubs have begun taking an interest in the players of the Premier League.
Solskjaer stressed that the youth was key to his plans at United and as of such it will be interesting to see if he’ll be willing to let go of Chong if this report proves to be true.
