Social media has succeeded in adding an interesting aspect when it comes to transfer rumors and speculations. The smallest moves of players and their agents, no matter how insignificant, are closely dissected and interpreted to fit ones pre-conceived notions on sagas.
In the era where timestamps in tweets and quickly-deleted Instagram stories are looked at with a detective’s keen eyes, it shouldn’t be a surprise that red-herrings are common and hopes are often raised wrongly.
Recently, once such spectacle of the latter was in evidence.
Manchester United fans have been left unsatisfied after this summer’s transfer window. Despite three crucial players coming in through Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Harry Maguire, many still feel that the club held back and ought to have made more investments in other regions.
As of such, rumors are already strife as to who could join Old Trafford in the winter and the past summer.
Now, James Maddison’s Instagram post has certainly raised a lot of feathers in this regard.
The Leicester City midfielder posted a caption-less photo of himself on the social-media platform. The only words on the post was in the check-in of ‘Old Trafford’.
This tiny detail wasn’t ignored and his comments were filled with fans of the Red Devils practically begging him to join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and company.
The fact that the Foxes played in Manchester just this weekend seems to have been missed by quite a few.
However, there have been murmurs about the 22-year-old making the move. A recent claim even suggested that Maddison, alongside Jadon Sancho, topped United’s wishlist for the upcoming summer window.
There is no denying that the Mancunian giants desperately need some attacking intent and creative intelligence in the important spot. Maddison could easily fulfill that role and he certainly fits Solskjaer’s requirements.
