Manchester United have finally acquired Bruno Fernandes from Sporting.

The official statement of the club added that the deal was pending a medical and official agreement of personal terms. What makes this saga an all the more special one is the sheer time that has transpired since it first caught on.

This was addressed by overjoyed supporters of the club who stormed to Twitter to react to United’s first winter signing.

The Portuguese midfielder had emerged on to United’s radar in the summer itself and inflated reports from back then had crushed the hopes of supporters when nothing materialized by the time the season began.

Thus, when the 25-year-old was once again linked to Old Trafford in the winter, hopes were running all too high. When reports kept raising hopes to no avail and it seemed that a disagreement over the price for the player would once again break the deal, frustrations were at a peak.

As such, these reactions show the catharsis that the Red Devils are undergoing after one of the longest and most enduring transfer sagas in the modern era.

However, it has to be mentioned that while a central-attacking midfielder was the main requirement at the club heading into this window, it wasn’t the only one.

The pursuit for the Portuguese player may have distracted the fanbase from the other issues plaguing the outfit and there are certainly those who are hoping that Ed Woodward and company have some other silent deals up their sleeves as well prior to the window closing.

While that thought can certainly be dismissed to be too foolhardy, it did end up being the hopeful strain that has led United fans to celebrat Fernandes’ arrival at last.

Next up, how will he fare on the pitch after all these months of speculation?
