Crystal Palace manager Frank De Boer is eyeing a potential reunion with Man Utd teenager Timothy Fosu-Mensah, reports the Sun.

According to reports, United would be open to the idea of letting the young starlet leave the club on loan, so that he can gain some crucial minutes in the Premier League and develop his game.

Palace manager Frank De Boer was the boss at Ajax back when Fosu-Mensah was at the club, and he is said to be keen on working with the player again.

Fosu-Mensah has grown into a mammoth of a player, offering a combination of immense physicality along with pace and stamina. However, the issue that he currently faces is defining his natural position.

He is originally a central midfielder, but is being crafted into a defender. Fellow Dutchman and former United manager Louis van Gaal often used the 19-year-old as a right-back and centre-back.

Jose Mourinho has also used him in those positions, and he was given a run-out as a defensive midfielder on a few occasions last season due to United’s lack of options in the position, owing to a series of injuries and suspensions for some of the more regular members of the first team.

Mourinho admirers versatility, but he also prefers to have players who are experts in a particular, defined position on the pitch. Hence, a temporary move away to play and discover himself as a footballer would do him a world of good.

It is yet to be seen as to what De Boer’s plans for the youngster are, but reports suggest that he aims to play him at the heart of defense in a 3-4-3 formation.

Watford have also registered an interest in the talented Dutchman, and it remains a mystery for now as to where he will be spending the upcoming season.
