United will have to wait for 30 days to find out whether Ivan Rakitic wants to join them, according to reports in Spain.

The Croatian has been linked with a move to Old Trafford recently, and reports have suggested that he is keen on a change of clubs.

However, he will first assess his options to see where he lies in Ernesto Valverde’s plans for next season, before deciding if he should accept United’s advances, according to Diario Gol.

Jose Mourinho has already made it clear that he will focus the summer transfer funds on the recruitment of quality defenders and midfielders.

With Marouane Fellaini refusing to budge over the terms of his contract, and Michael Carrick retiring at the end of the season, United are in desperate need of a central midfielder.

While Rakitic may not be a long-term solution due to his age – he turned 30 in March – he would still add loads of title-winning experience, having won every trophy there is to win in the game at Barcelona.

According to Don Balon, Rakitic will probably cost United a fee in the region of £70 million, which is a respectable figure in today’s market.

Mourinho would probably try to speed things up though, considering Rakitic is going to Russia for the World Cup with Croatia.

The United boss is known for completing his dealings as early as possible, so he may try to convince the midfielder to sign before those 30 days are complete.
