And now, Manchester United have wasted no time to get De Gea to agree a new deal at the club. Jose Mourinho confirmed the same in his pre-match conference ahead of the weekend clash against Brighton.
The Portuguese stated: “He likes it here, we love him. We want him to stay, he wants to stay, so when a player is not on the market, the value is zero.”
The gaffer then went on to add that the former Atletico Madrid player will be officially tied down at the club as soon as possible: “He (De Gea) is a Manchester United player and he will as soon as possible sign a new contract.”
The world class goalkeeper has become the best in the world, and has spent a long time at Old Trafford since his arrival in 2011. He has also won United’s Player of the Year award in three of the last four seasons.
De Gea signed a four-year deal with the club in 2014, which has a 12-month extension to keep him in Manchester till 2020.
This deal was signed after his move to Real collapsed on the deadline day of that summer. The shot-stopper has made 316 appearances for the Red Devils, and won 7 trophies so far.
