Shakhtar Donetsk manager Paulo Fonseca has advised Jose Mourinho on how to get the best out of his former player, Fred.
The central midfielder completed his big £52.5 million move to Manchester United in the summer of 2018, and has since been trying his best to find his feet and adapt to English football.
Fred has dropped several decent performances for the Red Devils so far, but is yet to nail down a permanent spot in the Mancunian giants’ starting lineup.
Amid his adaptation process in Manchester, the Brazilian international’s former manager, Paulo Fonseca, has revealed how Jose Mourinho can get the best out of the player who was a key part of a dominant Shakhtar Donetsk side.
Speaking to ESPN FC, Fonseca stated: “He’s a big talent and he’s still developing. I have no doubt he’ll have a great future at Manchester United. But, of course, he needs time.
“It’s totally different from what he was used to in Ukraine. He needs a period to adapt, to the club, to the league. It’s a totally different situation.”
Having said that, Fonseca further went on to reveal what he thinks is Fred’s best position, as he added: “In my opinion, his position is in a midfield two as the more attacking of two central midfield players.
“He is physically strong and mobile, with the quality to build play, but he is also very good at breaking from midfield and going to either side of the attack.”
Will Mourinho heed the advice of his fellow compatriot and accordingly field the talented 25-year-old?
