We are getting closer and closer to the year-mark of Jose Mourinho being axed from managerial duties at Manchester United. The Portuguese tactician has been sorely missed since and despite rendering his services as a pundit, the spark of his genius on the touchline simply can’t be replicated.
The gaffer has been linked with a lot of clubs since December, but so far it remains unclear as to which side will be graced by him next, if any at all.
For now, Mourinho must content himself with recollections and nostalgia of his illustrious past across Europe. In fact, one incident regarding the same hasn’t missed the fans.
When the former Chelsea, Manchester United, and Real Madrid gaffer appeared on a Live Score program, he may have not been expecting a quick-fire quiz.
The questions had to be answered in just five seconds and Mourinho appeared to have a problem of recollection for one question in particular.
When asked to name three English defenders he had managed in his career, Mourinho succeeded in naming only John Terry and Gary Cahill within the stipulated time period.
While one has to account for the fact that five seconds is not always enough time for recollections, the names omitted have sparked an interesting conversation on Twitter.
The gaffer could have easily named the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, and Luke Shaw whom he recently managed at Old Trafford.
The fact that he was unable to recall the same has been interpreted by fans as a sign that Mourinho has removed Smalling and Jones from his memory entirely.
A light moment to be laughed about but one that is also reminiscent of the gaffer’s tumultuous time in Manchester. Smalling and Jones didn’t always do justice to the Special One’s defensive ethos, while Luke Shaw can arguably be hailed as a redemption project that Mourinho executed to perfection last season.
