Manchester United are interested in signing AS Monaco defensive midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.
According to The Sun, United boss Jose Mourinho is determined to increase his squad’s depth in the holding midfielder position.
The Portuguese boss currently has Paul Pogba, Morgan Schneiderlin, Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera – who can all play in the central defensive midfield position – at his disposal, but is not satisfied.
Michael Carrick, while still a crucial player to United, is 35 years old, and does not have the legs to start every game, while Schneiderlin has failed to convince the manager with his performances so far.
Bakayoko would be seen as a welcome addition to the squad, and is likely to play as a holding midfielder alongside Paul Pogba, who will be pushed further forward.

Mourinho is keen on bringing the youngster to Old Trafford, but would face stiff competition for his signature. West Bromwich Albion, Stoke City, and Southampton have all made their interest known, but United’s key battle is likely to take place with Juventus.
The Serie A champions are in pole position to sign the 22-year-old Frenchman, according to his agent Michel Boli. The Bianconeri have sent scouts to keep an eye on the midfielder on three separate occasions, and are prepared to go head to head with United for his signature in January.
