Jose Mourinho Wants To Sign Benfica’s Lindelof In January
Manchester United are in the hunt to sign Benfica central defender Victor Lindelof in the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports.
Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for good defenders, especially since the ones in his squad are either always getting injured or are woefully out of form.
Having settled for yet another draw at Old Trafford on Sunday, the Manchester club is in 6th place in the Premier League table – a mammoth 8 points behind 4th place Arsenal, and 11 behind leaders Chelsea.
While the strikers at the front aren’t firing enough, there is an equally desperate problem at the back for the manager, with the defence giving away goals and making it harder to secure all three points.

To add more steel to their defence, Manchester United have set their sights on Swedish international Victor Lindelof, who plays for Benfica. Mourinho has made him a priority signing for the January transfer window, by which time Eric Bailly should also return from his injury.
However, Benfica have made it clear to the English club that Lindelof would not be up for sale if they manage to reach the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.
They are currently in second place in the group, but equal on points with table toppers Napoli, against whom they have their final group game. Only a win would guarantee a place in the knockout rounds, as any other result would mean that they must hope that Besiktas loses to Dynamo Kyiv.

Mourinho, however, is keen on signing Lindelof as he is impressed with the player’s speed and skill, likening him to Raphael Varane, whom he managed at Real Madrid.
Whether the deal will go through would depend on how well Benfica do against Napoli, and Manchester United fans will be hoping they can get their man.
