Manchester United have initiated negotiating a massive deal for long-term target Antoine Griezmann, and have offered an astonishing £220,000-a-week contract to tempt him to Old Trafford, according to the Sun.

The report claims Old Trafford hierarchy have begun talks with the Atletico Madrid star’s representatives, and even assured they will match Paul Pogba’s wages at the club.

Pogba, who reunited with United for a world record transfer fee of £89.3 million in the summer, pockets a reported £220,000-a-week, and Griezmann can expect the same wages and bonuses if the deal is agreed.

Griezmann has earlier publicly expressed his admiration for United and Mourinho in several interviews, with the 25-year-old French hotshot having been strongly linked with a move to the Red Devils.

And the Sun now suggests Mourinho has stepped up his efforts to bring in the Frenchman, with Atletico Madrid reportedly demanding the Premier League club meet his £86 million release clause.

However, in a recent interview, Griezmann didn’t entertain questions about his future, particularly questions about Manchester United links.

“I don’t like this question,” he said. “I don’t appreciate these type of questions about my future because players like Cristiano, Messi or Bale aren’t asked about what is going to happen next year or where they are going to play.

“That’s why I don’t like it when they ask me either. I’m happy and enjoying myself at Atletico, don’t ask me about my future anymore.”

Griezmann is, in one word, outstanding. He is perhaps struggling a little this term, by his own lofty standards, but he still scored six goals and four assists in La Liga, and has three goals and two assists in the Champions League this season.
