Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s debut Premier League season may have come to an abrupt end due to injury.

The Swedish international is still among the most prolific goalscorers in Europe, and he joined the Red Devils from PSG on a free transfer at the start of the season.

In his first season in England, Zlatan has helped Manchester United to the League Cup already, and has also played a huge part in keeping them in the race for a top 4 finish in the league table. He has 28 goals to his name in all competitions, and has been a mainstay in United’s attacking unit this season.

However, in United’s midweek encounter against Anderlecht, he was substituted following the end of normal time, and it was then revealed that he picked up an injury thanks to an awkward fall whilst contending for the ball.

Jose Mourinho claimed after the game that he “was not optimistic” about the extent of the injury, and now, it is being reported that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is expected to miss the rest of the season for Manchester United due to a serious knee injury.

His 28 goals include Wembley winners in the Community Shield and the League Cup final, and 17 of those have come during his league appearances.

However, he only signed a one-year contract at the start of the season, and is yet to extend his deal, which means that he could have already played his last game for the English club.

Manchester United still have some work to do if they are to finish in the top 4 in the points table, but they are also alive in the Europa league, which will can be a backdoor into the Champions League next season.

But the Red Devils will have to do it all, starting at Turf Moor, without their best player this season.
