Paul Pogba Out For The Manchester Derby, Confirms Jose Mourinho
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Paul Pogba will miss the Manchester Derby at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow.
The French midfielder picked up an injury during the club’s 2-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday, and Mourinho has now confirmed that he has failed to recover in time for the blockbuster clash. Juan Mata, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, and Phil Jones will also miss out.
Mourinho said: “We go with what we have, we fight with what we have, I trust the boys and I go with everything we have and we go until the last second of the season. The boys are fighters and we go.”
Pogba, 23, has played 47 games this season, hardly managing to get a proper rest in between. Following the game at Burnley, Mourinho admitted that his central midfielder was ‘dead’ having played the full 120 minutes in the Europa League quarter-final against Anderlecht.
Mourinho has also confirmed that Ander Herrera and Antonio Valencia are both fit for the encounter which could potentially decide which amongst the two Manchester clubs manages to finish in the top 4 and qualify for next season’s Champions League.
United lie just a point behind City, and a win would move them two points ahead of their local rivals, and put them level on points with Liverpool with a game in hand.
Valencia missed the game at Turf Moor, but Mourinho did not go into the details of the injury, saying it was just a small ‘problem’. Herrera picked up a small ankle injury, but both have managed to recover in time for tomorrow’s game.
